Meet Our Third Judge, Eric Roland
Meet our third and final judge, Eric!
Eric is happily married and a father to two young children. He works for the Walgreens Company as an Assistant Manager. He graduated from Johnson and Wales University in 2001 (the previous Charleston campus) with a degree in Baking and Pastry Arts. He enjoys cooking and baking in his spare time and loves recreating recipes passed down from his family and ancestors. He is truly passionate about making sure his family can continue to enjoy these comfort foods for generations to come. He also LOVES him some cake and is looking forward to tasting those awesome cupcakes!
Meet Another Judge! Kay Hyman, Charleston Animal Society
Meet another Judge: Kay Hyman, Director of Community Engagement from Charleston Animal Society.
Born and raised in North Charleston, Kay has deep roots in our community. Her career began in Marketing and Merchandising with the U.S. Navy, where she served for 13 years as a Visual Merchandising Specialist. Kay started with Charleston Animal Society as a volunteer over 22 years ago, where she quickly realized that a career in animal welfare was the right path for her. She became the shelter’s full time Volunteer/Special Events Coordinator in 1993. Kay has seen significant changes in the shelter over the years and is very proud of the status of No Kill Charleston. Kay’s role has changed over time, but as Director of Community Engagement, she has predominately been the voice and contact for media and has secured weekly television and radio appearances, as well as weekly spots for adoptable animals in print media. Kay is very active in her community, serving on her neighborhood council and organizing community initiatives. She has been married for over 30 years, and has a lovely teenage daughter, three cats, two dogs, and a bird. Attesting to Kay’s commitment to the community, she has been a multi-time winner of the title of Charleston’s Best Do-Gooder and was recently named one of 20 to Know in North Charleston Magazine.

Big News
This has been in the works for awhile but all good things must come to an end and it's our time to go. This will be the last Cupcake Camp Charleston as we have realized there are other feats to cross and other journeys that must be explored. For the last six years, we've met a lot of amazing, kind-hearted and giving people we now call friends. We appreciate every one of you! From time to time, we hope to have pop-up camps to support new businesses but they will be on a smaller scale and with a quick turn around, so keep your eyes peeled! But it's not over yet!! Please share with others to come out and help us end with a bang! We need bakers, eaters, and volunteers. All monetary donations will support Charleston Animal Society (charlestonanimalsociety.org). Thank you and we love you!!

Meet Paolo Licciardi, Newest Sponsor of Cupcake Camp Charleston!
Meet Paolo Licciardi, Creator of Sapone di Paolo, quality handmade soaps, shaving creams, balms and much more.
Greetings!
Why am I here? What made me decide to start making shaving products?
Oddly enough, it all started with my hands.
I was suffering from dry, cracked and often bleeding hands. It was to a point where getting dressed, or reaching into my pocket for my wallet, or tapping the turn signal in my car, or picking just about anything up would split open my fingers. I was getting beyond frustrated.
I used every hand cream. I went to the dermatologist. He gave me steroid ointments which healed it, but it would always come back a week later. Completely sick of having four bandaids on my hands at once, it was time to solve this on my own.
My research began. After some time and testing, I found that removing sulfates from my skin did the trick. This led me into the world of natural products. Once I had cleaned up my ingredient lists with everything in the sink, shower, laundry, etc., I was still feeling slightly itchy when I shaved. This brought me to the wonderful and intriguing world of the traditional wet shaving community.
I had learned how to shave as a teen with safety razors. After years of canned foams and gels, bad disposable razors, electric razors and every other gimmick, it was a welcomed return to my roots along with the newly acquired interest in shaving soaps. I dove right in.
Creams. Soaps. Hard. Soft. Balms. Splashes. Endless scents. Brushes. Blades… It’s all very intoxicating and addictive.
With a few favorites, I thought “why not try to make your perfect soap?” Take the slickness from this one, a scent like that one and the post shave feel from that other one and make my super soap! I’m a genius!
Until I actually tried it. I very abruptly learned a new and great respect for soap makers.
But I persevered. It is a very intriguing and enjoyable process. It lets me be both creative AND nerdy! After several months of tinkering and tweaking, I finally have my perfect soap. It lathers easily, it’s slick, it smells fantastic and my face feels great hours later.
And now I can hopefully pass that same feeling on to you.
We can hardly wait to try it! Saponedipaolo.com launches on Monday, 3/16/15. Follow Paolo @saponedipaolo and support Charleston locally!
